Welcome to our congregation.

In 1986, the idea of a liberal religious organization in eastern Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania seemed far-fetched, even to some of those founding members who sincerely hoped for it. But in 1987 with the inspired leadership of Barbara Thorne and the hard work of many the Fellowship was organized and held its first service in December, 1987.

After fifteen years in rented space a permanent structure was purchased and serves very well today for our Sunday services, religious education, community outreach lectures, programs and recreational events.

Reverend Renee Waun is our Minister of Record. This busy professional serves two other area Unitarian Universalist congregations in addition to ours. Rev. Waun leads one service monthly and is available for pastoral purposes as well. Other services are led by guest ministers or by members of our congregation. We thus enjoy a very interesting variety of topics and points of view during the year.

Our membership is drawn not only from the immediate Ligonier area but from a radius of about twenty-five miles. Our members and friends hold views ranging from theistic and spiritual to agnostic and humanistic. As a community we share a quest for truth, a passion for social justice, a love of nature and the idea we can somehow improve the world by leading moral lives and working for the good of humanity.

The Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations is the national organization of our denomination.

Our Statement of Purpose-"Relying on reason as our guide, we promote the spiritual well being of all. We provide a welcoming fellowship to facilitate the search for truth and meaning through mutual respect, individual choice, inspirational message, music, ethical living and community service."
